In 1850 John Betts produced a small portable terrestrial globe. 12.5cms (5″) in diameter, the globe was made from paper with eight hand lithographed gores.
The gores, laminated with a similar shaped backing gore, hold together fine cotton cords. The cords, travel through the gore sections and extend from the poles, and when gathered together and harnessed with a glass bead, form a delightful paper globe of the world.
All our globes are handmade with traditional techniques so there may be slight variations in the globe size and colour. For all Shipping outside the United Kingdom please contact us.
Our products are all made to order. Large globes can take 6-18 months to complete. Smaller globes can take 2-4 weeks.
Our facsimile version of this interesting terrestrial globe is made in the same way that John Betts would have done in 1850. The globe is packaged in a clear acetate box, included are two solar charts and an accompanying booklet as once supplied by John Betts.
