Description
The publisher Adolf Henze, published since 1865, the magazine “Illustrated Scoreboard for Contor and Bureau”. Between 1885 and 1890 the magazine included at irregular intervals the segments for a 106 cm large impressive German terrestrial globe.
The completed strips could, if sent to the publisher, for a fee, mounted onto a sphere or supplied with a pneumatic kit to enable home assembly by inflation.
Interestingly this globe is 106 cm diameter which is the same diameter as the Coronelli Globe, clearly there appears to be some international understanding relating to the larger sizes of published globes!
Original surviving globes are now extremely rare. The images here are of the Adolf Henze Globe we have republished..
I have also made this globe from the original tissue gores. do not think I have experienced such trouble in making a globe using original gores, this is because Adolf Henze published his gores on the finest hard glazed tissue which was extremely thin and fragile.
We can now offer this fantastic globe as it was first published with two hemispheres, however we will make the two hemispheres in fibreglass for longevity with the same pedestal base and brass armature. Also we can make the globe with a complete sphere with a more traditional stand.
We are very pleased that our first facsimile globe was purchased by the Berlin State Library who had priviously purchased a Giant Alice Globe.
